Is retrofitting better for the planet than new construction?

ForHousing CEO, Colette McKune, sat down with Place North West in their new COP26 podcast series featuring industry players who are making a difference in the North West.

Retrofitting will play a key part in helping the UK meet its net zero goals.

At ForHousing we are doing all we can to move towards zero carbon and to protect the environment.

Research from Inside Housing estimated last year it would cost around £104 billion to decarbonise the UK’s social housing stock. Energy use in UK homes accounts for 14% of the nation’s emissions.

There is a lot of work to be done. We have made a funding commitment to achieve EPC band C in all ForHousing homes by 2030 as part of our wider mission to deliver quality homes and places.

Colette discusses why, in most cases, retrofit is better than new construction, retrofitting best practice, and how it’s important to keep tenants at the heart of decarbonisation plans.
